Mau Power takes the stage at Yabun
Mau Power performed at the Yabun festival as one of the headline acts for 2015 survival day celebration! The performance was set in Sydney parramatta park on Australia day and was televised live by NITV. Yabun is the biggest indigenous festival in Sydney for the survival day | Australia Day celebration. Presitgeous acts from all around Australia are invited to play at this event. And to be invited is a great honour.
About Survival Day
For Indigenous Australian’s the 26th of January is a day of mourning. It is the day marked that the nation was invaded and colonised. This day is know as “Survival Day or Invasion Day”. For the rest of Australia this day is celebrated as Australia day. It is similar the the US context of “Thanks giving”. The subject of the Australia day / Survival day debate is an ongoing political topic in Australia. The conversationa around the changing of the flag and the day of celebration is the hot issues that is continously discussed leading up to the day.
