Mau Power selected as Delegate for the Pacific Arts.
Mau Power was one of the 60 selected Australian Indigenous artists to represent Australia at the 2016 Festival of Pacific Arts in Guam US. Represent Torres Strait and Queensland Mau Power along with his team embarked on this journey for 14 days in the Pacific Island of Guam. Accompanied by two (2) Torres Strait traditional dancers, A soul singer and a DJ, he elevated the showcase with his contemporary representation of tradition Torres Strait culture and Hip Hop music. “Being selected as one of the Astralian Delegates to represent the Australia indigenous arts and culture has been a highlight in my career”, said Mau Power. It seems Mau Power’s performances and showcases has been growing from strength to strenght, and it will only get bigger and better.

Mau Power and his team joined Queensland Indigenous artists Bianca Beetson, Delvene Cockatoo-Collins, and organisations Naygayiw Gigi Indigenous Corporation and Digi Youth Arts, are among the Australian delegates to represent our country at the 12th Festival of Pacific Arts (FoPA) in Guam from 22 May to 4 June 2016.
About FoPA
Established in 1972, and held every four years, FoPA is the world’s largest gathering of Indigenous Pacific cultures, and has brought together the peoples from 27 Pacific Island nations to share their cultures and establish deeper understanding and friendship.
As part of the Festival, 60 Australian artists will showcase a wide range of traditional and contemporary artistic and cultural expressions, including dance, music, literature, film, theatre, ceramics and lino-printing, painting, pearl shell carving, songwriting, bush tucker and bush medicine, weaving, canoe making, and traditional games.
