CAIF – BIG TALK ONE FIRE

Torres Strait artist Mau Power Headlined the Big Tok One Fire | CAIF event 2016.

In 2016 we saw Mau Power headline the UMI Arts Big Tok One Fire event. For many years He has showcased in the performance showcase initiatives with the UMI sounds program. In 2014 with the release of the “Island Home” single, Mau Power performed exclusively at the Tanks for the UMI sounds showcase event. Now in 2016 with the partnership of UMI Sounds and Cainf Indigenous Arts Fair (CAIF). Mau Power was invited as the main act for the showcase program in Cairns. The showcase allowed Mau Power to deliver a Torres Strait artist performance with emerging artists Joey Tapau & Dayne-Jah as his support acts. The showcase proved to be a success and we look forward to seeing more Mau Power showcases at future UMI Arts and CAIF events.

Big Talk One Fire is UMI Art’s widely anticipated signature event where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture explodes with the rhythmic beat of island drums, the sound of clap sticks, tunes of musicians and an array of arts and crafts.

This year’s event kicked off on the green at the Cairns Cruise Liner Terminal, with the opening of the UMI Members markets presenting a diverse and beautiful collection of authentic Indigenous art and craft from Far North Queensland.
